SATA is an acronym for Serial ATA. It is a computer bus used to interface with mass storage devices. It replaced the older parallel ATA bus. It is much fast as uses a smaller, easier routable cable. There are 3 popular revisions. SATA 1, 2, and 3. SATA 1 has a transfer rate of 1.5 Gb per second. That number double to 3 Gb per second for SATA 2. It then double again for SATA 3 at 6 Gb per second.
