What is an SSD?

An SSD is a solid state drive. It is a storage device for computers and phones that are replacing old spinning mechanical hard drives. They have many advantages over hard drives. They are much faster, a mechanical hard drive has to move a read a write head to the right location before reading and write. This cause a small delay. With SSD's the read and write and instantaneous. This allows the computer to boot fast and do other random task much faster. The maximum transfer speed is also much faster, so it will take less time to transfer big files.
