AGM is an acronym for Absorbed Glass Mat. It is a type of lead acid battery that is sealed and contains acid gel that is absorbed into fine fiberglass mat making them spillproof. They don't require the maintenance of a normal flooded lead acid battery. Because they are sealed the can be mounted in any orientation.
