GPU is an acronym for Graphics Processing Unit. It is a specialized electrical circuit that is designed to create images into a frame buffer. What all the means is the GPU is specialized at processing imagages and displaying them. Because they are specialized, they are much more efficient at compling visual task than a general purpose CPU. In modern PCs, laptops, phones, and tablets the GPU is built into the motherboard and can also be integrated with the CPU. The exception to this is in PCs. Most PCs do come with an integrated GPU, but have expansion slots to install a much more powerful GPU. This is very common in video rendering, special effect, and gaming.
