SIM card is an acronym for Subscriber Identity Module. It is an integrated circuit that securely stores the international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) which is how subscribers are identified on mobile network around the world. They started out the size of a credit card and been down sized numerous times over the years, but the contact patter has stayed the same.
